This Poker Dice set consists of five dice numbered Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, and Nine. While not strictly the game of poker, this is a dice game version of that game. A nice little gambling game in itself, this is also a great tool for RPG gamers who need a fast way to play some games of chance. Sure you could just sit around and play the actual game of poker with a deck of cards, but then you would not really have much time for actual gaming then would you? Far simpler to make some quick rolls and drain off some of that excess treasure the party has. Want to reflect the fact that the player has the skill gambling? This is easy enough if you allow the player to make a gambling check and alter the dice in his or her favor or even take an extra roll to improve their hand. This set comes in a tube with five white dice marked with card symbols in red, blue, and black. The tube also includes a small instruction sheet on how to use the dice. Object of Game: Players aim to make the best possible poker hand in not more than two roles of the dice (or three rolls of the dice in an older form of the game). Play: Each player rolls in turn. He or she may accept the hand produced by the first throw, or, if the player wishes, he or she may pick up one or more of the dice to improve his or her hand and the dice are passed to the next player. The highest hand in the round wins. If there are only two players, the best two out of three rounds, or the best three out of five wins. more info

This version of the game is called Shut the Box. It is a very solid game unit of stained finish wood and green felt and comes complete with dice. Rubber feet are on the bottom to protect your table top. The object of the game is to get the lowest score for your round. There are numbers 1 through 10 on the board. If an 8 is rolled then the number can be shut off on the board or any numbers that add up to 8 such as a 6 and a 2 or a 5 and a 3. The round ends when a person rolls a number that cannot be taken off the board. If the person has an 11 and a 9 left then their score is 20. If that turns out to be the lowest score after everyone has taken their turn, then that person is the winner. more info
