One of my "most recommended" books on craps! Rating:5 out of 5 stars If you understand the basics of the game but are still looking for a way to win on a consistent basis - John Patrick is your man. John's theories are simple and straight forward. You have to have near-perfect knowledge of the game in order to win consistently. You need sufficient bankroll to have a shot. You should approach the game with a theory or plan for HOW you are going to play. Set win objectives and loss limits. And have the discipline to walk with a small win. Will you do what it takes to win? Probably not. And according to John, that makes you a dork. Hey - get over it. After all, he's probably right.
On a personal basis, I've known John for about ten years now. He's a class guy and one of the few in this business who actually does the things he writes about. This book is a "must have" for serious crapsters.
For smart players Rating:5 out of 5 stars If you're a novice, start with something like John's, Craps For The Clueless, and once you understand how the game is played, the natural progression would be, John Patrick's Craps, and then this book, Advanced Craps. This is the best book I've read on craps, and one of the best books ever written on casino gambling. Most of the other books tell you to do the same thing, bet the pass line and take the odds, which really doesn't work. John Patrick is the dean of gambling instructors.
Corny but good Rating:4 out of 5 stars The lingo in the book is very out of date, I mean the guy refers to Dolly and Lonnie as the current babes! However, the money management and discipline information in this book are invaluable to any gambler. You also get the impression that Mr. Patrick is a "good guy" and that counts alot with me. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to enhance their craps strategy.
Save your money and buy a better book. Rating:1 out of 5 stars This is a poorly written book that recommends bad bets. I think you'd be better off putting your money in a slot machine than reading this.
Excellent resource if you are studying craps Rating:5 out of 5 stars This book covers A LOT of possible bets and angles for making money on the craps table. It's an excellent continuation on the first craps book by Patrick. It covers money management in much greater detail than the first book, so I liked that.
Unless you are a seasoned craps player, start with his first book. I went from knowing relatively nothing about the game (despite playing it for a while now) to finding just one of his ideas that I have managed to turn into a consistent overall money maker on this game.
Some people say he ignores the math behind the game. Well, that's partially true. He tells you about the numbers, so he's not really ignoring them. He just isn't afraid to suggest deviating from a .1% difference in odds if it will save you from a possible significant negative fluctuation in your bankroll. It's a conservative approach he recommends. He addresses this topic pretty directly in the book much better than I am doing here. I came away thinking that if you have a sufficient bankroll, it's obviously not so terrible to play the numbers. But if you are playing short at all (and he knows most people who read his books will be playing short despite his numerous warnings not to do so) his deviations from those numbers are there to keep you at the table with money to stay in the game.
My basic point about this book is that it covered some ideas on the table I never would have thought of in a long long time. And it contained one system I like that I can't seem to lose with yet. Rating gambling books on amazon is easier than most books. If the book contains information that wins me more than the book cost, I am clearly a better player for having read it.
Money Management -The key to success Rating:5 out of 5 stars I first became irritated with his constant method of "talking down" to me. I then realised that as a "Coach", it is necessary to teach using different approaches to help you remember and get proficient in whatever you do. He is absolutely correct in stressing money management. The idea that you are going to put "money" on the tables and not "chips" is stressed over and over again. YOU HAVE TO LOVE GAMBLING. IF YOU DO, LEARN CONTROL. He stresses this over and over again. In fact, the methods taught are what everyone should do in handling all kinds of money management in everyday life. I would recommend this book to my friends.
Money Management Great - Placing Money ??? Rating:4 out of 5 stars John Patrick does "not" believe in using the "come" option and then establishing a point. He believes that you have to wait one extra time to work the table. What he did'nt mention is that the VIG is higher on placing the bet. The 6 for instance will give you 6/5 on true odds and 7/6 on place betting. By using the come option, and then having the money move to the number, you can then establish "true" odds. By all means do take all the full odds on the come out and keep away from the sucker bets. His idea of money management is excellent. If you follow his idea of trying to leave as a winner, your success rate will increase. Except for the way he plays, I would recommend the book for his ideas on money management.
Best book for Craps Rating:5 out of 5 stars This book has the best advice I have ever received about gambling. The author gives advice on several methods of play that require a lot of dicipline, it is not a "fun" way to play craps, but walking away from the casino a winner has become more important to me than having fun. The instructions about regressing after the first win to lock in a profit, and the up & pull if a winning streak sets in are worth many times the price of the book.
Time Tested Rating:5 out of 5 stars Many years ago I read John Patrick's book on craps. It was a huge help and made a lot of things much clearer. I soon moved on to his books on Blackjack and his Advanced books.
John knows what he is talking about. Though he can get a little corny, his books are easy reads and--in my experience--dead on. It is not the pretty, rosy, picture the casinos paint. If you gamble, the odds of probability are not your friend. Still, the player has a few "edges" that can help him in has battle to walk away with money (or, at least, lose very little). One, the player gets to choose when the session begins and ends (providing he doesn't lose all his money). Second, the player can choose the bets in the casino that are almost fifty/fifty.
John explains the strategies that can keep you in the hunt. There is a lot more to it than you think! Keeping control over your emotions and avoiding the easy mistakes are critical to success. John explains the folly of the Martindale System (i.e. double your bet each time you lose...until you win). Though it sounds good on paper, it is sure disaster. Once you read this book you will be able to go into any casino and watch ninety percent of the players making almost every mistake he describes. Think of the layout on the craps table as an advertisement for your bet. Did you know the larger the letters (or numbers) asking for your bet...the worse the bet? John explains how the best bet in the entire casino (odds on the pass or don't pass)...has no letters or numbers on display.
He explains how a novice player using poor betting strategy can win two out of three bets...and still lose (or at best break even). John's method of regression betting ("up and pull") is a very smart system.
Gambling--to me at least--is a lot of fun. With John's help I have spent days in a casino and walked away with small wins (or only very light loses) after having a ton of fun.
If you don't like simply giving your money away to the casinos (and, in fact, kind of resent it), read John Patrick.
Only Serious Players Need Apply Rating:5 out of 5 stars One of the few books available for the highly experienced player (aside from those on "dice control"), Patrick's book contains some very intriguing hedging strategies. A must-have for any craps library.
one of few that speak the truth! Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have been reading Mr. Patrick's work since 1986..and still use a lot of the primary learning I received from his efforts. I have also read and purchased many, many systems over the years, and found most of them to be garbage. Mr. Patrick has always told it like it is, and has never promised anything he couldn't deliver. If you are a new player or a veteran like me, get this book...it is a valuable resource and will change the way you play...and probably save you a ton of money, not only in what you might win, but for sure in what you will not lose. It is one of few efforts that really speak the truth....(no wonder the casino publications put his work down...if we all played like we should, the casinos would suddenly have a real problem with cash flow....)
Best Chance of Winning Rating:5 out of 5 stars The best chance you'll have at winning in craps is to follow Patrick's advice. It takes discipline to win, something all professionals possess. If you're a novice at Craps, buy his first book on the Basic Strategies. Don't start with his advanced book--he'll be speaking over your head. Both books give you strategies to play by--pick one that suits your style...and follow his advice and then you might have a chance--a good chance of winning.
Great book for the advanced craps player Rating:4 out of 5 stars John Patrick has a knack for writing and keeps things interesting. He adds bits of humor to it to keep the book flowing. He tells the truth about typical scenarios at the craps table, and what you can expect to win, no boasting or exaggerations here. He's real, and his strategies are very much inline with how one should play. If you really want to perfect your game, pick up his book and don't just read it, study it...he knows many won't like the way he plays, but if you want to play smart, and don't have dreams of winning thousands in a day's play...this is the way to train yourself to play.
Decent Rating:4 out of 5 stars Very very heavy on money management and discipline. John seems to write for the masses as a whole, even in his advanced books, like this one. It took several readings and tons of underlining and bookmarks, but with book reading discipline I was able to find some real good strategies and gems that have paid off quite handsomely. He plays for a daily income and lives close to a casino, so what you learn will be the steady small kills. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer his books on cards the most.
Tell it like it is. Rating:5 out of 5 stars John has a style all his own. He pulls no punches, insults his readers, and offers them the chance to start winning for a change. Money management is the name of the game and John is the best. He teaches you how to gamble smart. How to leave the table a winner. Don't read this book unless you want to win. Forget the pie in the sky other gambling writers tell you about their system. John lays it all out in a easy to read manner. A book you'll read over and over again. Great to read just before a trip to the tables.
This will change the way you view gambling forever! Rating:5 out of 5 stars This book is very well written, concise, and very pratical in language. I suggest reading the Beginner's Guide to Craps (John Patrick) before reading this one. This book assumes you already know basic craps strategy. Mr. Patrick covers ALL aspects of gambling, not only how to hold down your losses, but even more importantly, how to manage yourself when winning. EXCELLENT BOOK!!!
Advanced Craps Review Rating:4 out of 5 stars Personally, I read the special 600pp edition of this book, available through the publisher, but I imagine this one is similar, and that the extended version is just that, extended. This is a great book because it stresses the most important factor in gambling, money management. There is no way, no matter what anyone says, no matter which system you play, to gain an edge on the house in craps. The best you can achieve is close to but not exactly 50-50. This book is the best I have read, in terms of money management. Some people may not like to hear the reality of gambling(IT WILL NOT MAKE YOU RICH! )but John Patrick's book is exactly that, REALITY! If you want a get rich quick scheme, don't buy ANY gambling books! If you want to minimize your losses and maybe come home a small winner, then this is a great book for you. What I like about John Patrick is that he doesn't preach a system, he simply gives you ideas, and states that any systems or variation is fine, as long as you know how to manage your money. This book is great for those who want to know about the reality of gambling. By far the best book on craps I have ever read!
This is the best crap book Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have been buying Crap books, since the 1980's. This is the most information that I have seen on any book of Craps. This is a must book for advance players. Some of the people he writes about, remind you of yourself. He hits close to home. I have used this to update, my own personal system. I was a winner of craps before this book. The Hedge information,The break down of all bets, money management,is very valuable. Great Price. Thank muddy323
Not So Advanced! Rating:1 out of 5 stars I have read this book several times. I have tested all of the systems in the book at great length and all have had the same results. All of the sytems and methods outlined in the book are, in the long run, losers. The best thing that can be accomplished (and not by all the systems) is that you learn how to manage your money and to leave the table if you should have a short term win. The newer books on craps have been revised to include more disclosures, but all in all this one has no more value than any other I have read. If any of the methods outlined in the book actually made money Las Vegas would be a ghost town.
CRAPS is as CRAPS PLAYERS does!!! Rating:5 out of 5 stars Like another reviewer, I never knew SQUAT about the table when first encountering John Patrick's INCREASED GENIUS concerning this wonderful game. His style of "telling it EXACTLY like it is" upsets MANY who feel they have "just arrived" and Vegas had better watch out for their expertise. However, HIS is, by far, the more realistic. In observing the BEGINNERS at a CRAPS table, I see them, constantly, betting the Pass line REGARDLESS of the trend of the table to "seven out" every other toss of the dice - John comments on these "dorks" and it upsets them. They, then, try to transfer THEIR lack of expertise at the table to his blame with such inane comments as "That must be why he writes books - in order to compensate for his losses". In California casinos, the math, apparently, isn't the same as covered in this SUPERB instructional book; because some actually believe [because they know no better] and comment that the Come bet is so much better than the Place bet. Just a simple point that John brings out [and backs up] is that the Come bettor must receive the "6" for example, TWICE before he collects a cent. The Place bettor needs that 6 to hit, only, once. Any mention of 6/5 [come] opposed to 7/6 [place] doesn't build your winnings as much as listening to the advice in this book and it is grossly faulty in its math. First, for every Come bet, as soon as the 6 would hit, you'd be paid [one-to-one for the basic bet and true odds ONLY on the odds you've taken] and you'd have to go through the Come again to get back to that 6 - meaning two more times a 6 hits for you to collect ANYTHING. Yet, the Place bet just sits there collecting each time that the "Come bettors" are playing around with that Come space. Such faulty advice as the "6/5 as opposed to 7/6", simply, isn't the way it happens and John Patrick brings out all of these excellent points. It is money WELL spent to buy this book; but, is money much BETTER won when this book is read and its advice is followed!!!
This book is a gambler's bible. Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have owned this book for about a year and still continue to pick this up and read it constantly. It is that good! There is so much information in this book it still amazes me every time I thumb thru it. If you are new to craps, don't let the advanced theme of this book intimidate you into not buying this for your first book. There are only a few good plays in craps (place bets and Pass/dont pass with odds) and he goes into extensive instruction on how to play these. As other reviews have stated, everything revolves around his money management theme which is RIGHT ON! This is my best book in my gambling library. Get it now.
It is truthful. The best education on money management. Rating:5 out of 5 stars This book is the first of two steps in learning money management. The book super craps completes the course started by John Patrick on money management, which is what gambling is. Managing your money when in the casino. I took the time to learn everything I could with this book before going to the casino and gambling at the craps table. It took me five years to fully understand his approach. It is conservative, but very effective in putting strings of small consistent wins togeather. Im now a winner at craps. Thank you John. It was worth the effort.
It gives you an insight about money management on craps Rating:3 out of 5 stars It takes several months to read this book completely.
This book does not drive you to go to casinos.
However, the author emphasizes that money management
is more important than knowing the rules of craps.
John Patrick argues to the reader to have the feelings of "Bank Roll" and "Charting the table".
Yes, that was really important lesson that I have learned
from him.
I recommend to buy this book if you want see it how
the craps professional manages his winning!
Thank you for reading my comments.

Very conservative play but a winner Rating:5 out of 5 stars I read most of John Patricks books and they all are well written, he leans very hard on money management and discipline. If you enjoy leaving the casino with your money and some of theres this book is an excellent investment. I've used many straight forward betting systems of Johns and have had good returns. He really leans on Place betting, taking several hits and taking them down. I've down very well with that system. You will too.
So dated - It's hard to read. Rating:2 out of 5 stars I am relatively new to craps. I can play but don't really understand the nuance of the game. Saw the reviews and bought it.
I find John's banter intolerable: "macho type dude, with muscles bigger than Dolly Pardon's trademarks," "Does Sophia Loren look like a boy?". I'm sure it a generational thing. It's kind of like having Buddy Love teach you trigonometry.
Anyway, some good information that's just really hard to get to. I'm looking for something modern and less dramatic.
Excellent advanced book on craps Rating:4 out of 5 stars This book is a continuation and extention of his beginning book on craps. Some stuff is repeated and some is new. What he does well is give the reader a wide variety of betting strategies. I did get tired of his constant stories about "losers" he used to illustrate what not to do. Overall - an excellent book for someone wanting to move forward in his knowledge of craps betting strategies.
Everything you need if you're an advanced Craps player. Rating:5 out of 5 stars John Patrick's 2 years were well spent in creating this book. PLEASE Overlook his sexist overtones and see this book for the money saving art that it is. Slightly humourous J.P.'s Advanced Craps was never made clearer .Hook this up with a good practice Software like I.G.S. Craps, and you may save and make Ten's of thousands!
Amateur Ramblings Rating:1 out of 5 stars John Patrick knows very little about the game of craps from a mathematical point of view. His book is a lot of hot air about discipline and walking away when you're ahead but you coul dbe ahead after the first bet! There's a lot of sound and fury in this book but it signifies you should look elsewhere for craps guidance!
To become a Craps Pro - read this book. Rating:5 out of 5 stars If you read the first book on Craps by John Patrick, you will want to find ways in which you can utilize your new craps knowledge in a more professional and educated manner - for that reason I highly recommend this book as a great addition to his first craps book.
"piece of crap" Rating:1 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money. Patrick's main thesis is that you can't win unless you take money off the table (regress). Profound! He then fills his book with example after redundant example of how to do this. Beyond that, much of what he states is just plain wrong. For example, he argues that conceding the house a small vig on more likely numbers (i.e., place betting the 6 or is better than getting true odds on other less likely (roll-out) numbers. No wonder he writes a lot of books .. he needs to make up for his gambling losses!
Finest craps strategy ever written Rating:5 out of 5 stars The basic technique on the Place bet and use of hedge ie covering bets paid for this book several times several times over(no thats no repeat typo. Some books I lend..others I do not...this is a must have reference book for serious craps players.
John Patrick's betting methods make alot of sense. Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have read other books on craps and most of them spout the same methods. Patrick tells you other ways of betting while attempting to reduce your overall cash risk. It is written in a humorous manner. His mathematics are a little off but his ideas on how to play the game are good. I highly recommend this book
This is an excellent no nonsense book on craps. Rating:5 out of 5 stars I knew nothing about craps before I read this book and viewed the videos by Patrick. I wanted to play craps but was too intimidated to try to learn in the casino. I now know that at the table training would have been a costly mistake.I felt confident in my first craps game after reading the book and even got compliments from a dealer on the discipline I showed. John gives a realistic vision of what to expect and how to handle your money whether you win or lose.
Bad Math, Fantastic Advice Rating:4 out of 5 stars Patrick's math is bad--I'm a math teacher, so I know whereof I speak. The book, however, is his best--a must for any novice gambler. Before reading it and following his advice, I was a $200 per month loser. Since then, I've won $600 in one and one-half years. You might not like his ideas, but you must be crazy not to follow his lead on establishing narrow win goals and ABSOLUTE loss limits. My sessions have not been as "exciting" for me since--but I have no regrets. Buy the book, read the book, follow his advice!

John has a style all his own.

This book is very well written, concise, and very pratical in language.
Advanced Craps Review

Personally, I read the special 600pp edition of this book, available through the publisher, but I imagine this one is similar, and that the extended version is just that, extended.
This is the best crap book

I have been buying Crap books, since the 1980's.

I have read this book several times.

Like another reviewer, I never knew SQUAT about the table when first encountering John Patrick's INCREASED GENIUS concerning this wonderful game.

I have owned this book for about a year and still continue to pick this up and read it constantly.

This book is the first of two steps in learning money management.
It gives you an insight about money management on craps

It takes several months to read this book completely.

I read most of John Patricks books and they all are well written, he leans very hard on money management and discipline. If you enjoy leaving the casino with your money and some of theres this book is an excellent investment. I've used many straight forward betting systems of Johns and have had good returns. He really leans on Place betting, taking several hits and taking them down. I've down very well with that system. You will too.
So dated - It's hard to read.

I am relatively new to craps.
Excellent advanced book on craps
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This book is a continuation and extention of his beginning book on craps.

John Patrick's 2 years were well spent in creating this book. PLEASE Overlook his sexist overtones and see this book for the money saving art that it is. Slightly humourous J.P.'s Advanced Craps was never made clearer .Hook this up with a good practice Software like I.G.S. Craps, and you may save and make Ten's of thousands!

John Patrick knows very little about the game of craps from a mathematical point of view. His book is a lot of hot air about discipline and walking away when you're ahead but you coul dbe ahead after the first bet! There's a lot of sound and fury in this book but it signifies you should look elsewhere for craps guidance!
To become a Craps Pro - read this book.

If you read the first book on Craps by John Patrick, you will want to find ways in which you can utilize your new craps knowledge in a more professional and educated manner - for that reason I highly recommend this book as a great addition to his first craps book.
"piece of crap"
is better than getting true odds on other less likely (roll-out) numbers. No wonder he writes a lot of books .. he needs to make up for his gambling losses!

Don't waste your money. Patrick's main thesis is that you can't win unless you take money off the table (regress). Profound! He then fills his book with example after redundant example of how to do this. Beyond that, much of what he states is just plain wrong. For example, he argues that conceding the house a small vig on more likely numbers (i.e., place betting the 6 or

John Patrick's betting methods make alot of sense.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I have read other books on craps and most of them spout the same methods. Patrick tells you other ways of betting while attempting to reduce your overall cash risk.
It is written in a humorous manner.
His mathematics are a little off but his ideas on how to play the game are good.
I highly recommend this book
This is an excellent no nonsense book on craps.

I knew nothing about craps before I read this book and viewed the videos by Patrick.
Bad Math, Fantastic Advice
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Patrick's math is bad--I'm a math teacher, so I know whereof I speak.
