Roulette or small wheel in French is a gambling game with origins out of China and ancient Rome. Dominican monks were thought to have brought it back to Europe as a side result of trading with the Chinese. In ancient Rome charioteers turned their chariots on their sides and played a game by spinning the chariotÂ’s wheel.
There are two other theories about the origin of the game. One is that the mathematician Blaise Pascal invented the wheel as part of a mathematical experiment. The other idea is that two French brothers, Louis and François Blanc, invented the game, as we know it today including the single zero. The mythology of the game is that François sold his soul to the devil in order to gain the secret of Roulette. These theorists suggest this because the numbers on the Roulette wheel add up to a total of 666.
At the time of its invention, gambling was illegal in France, so it started out in Germany. When gambling became illegal there it took hold in Monaco after Louis Blanc was offered the job of running the Monte Carlo Casino. When he introduced roulette there it become the game of choice.
When roulette was brought to the United States, the extra zero was also added which further added to the house edge and the payoffs remained the same. Now there are two versions of the game, the American version is played with a “00” and the European version is played with “O”. In both cases there are 36 other numbers on the betting layout and on the wheel.
The popularity of roulette is worldwide. Smart people have spent years trying to come up with a betting system that would guarantee a winning session. This has been as successful as the alchemist and their search to turn lead into gold. There is no way to predict which number will come up on any given turn of the wheel.
The casinos watch closely for a wheel going out of balance, as this would make a section of the wheel a more probable landing area for the white ball. Parlay systems and betting pattern systems have been studied and so far no winning system has surfaced. There are systems sold on the Internet, but they are really money management systems rather than winning play systems. Enjoy the game for what it is, a gamble and nothing else.

This zombie survival shooter has been around for some time now, but I thought I would write a fresh review on it as the game is a timeless flash classic. Created by diseased productions that are also responsible for the development of the Thing Thing Games and Eternal Red, Endless Zombie Rampage holds no remorse in its deliverance of a blood festival. But don't worry if you're not the hack and slash horror type, the game is created more in a cartoon animation setting than in a realistic light, so it comes off more as a manga game than an eerie late night evil dead movie.
There are three types of game mode:
- Defensive mode: Plays out in many different levels, each with an increased difficulty. You must overcome each levels army of zombies, using the experience points you gain; you can purchase additional weapons and power ups. The game starts with a simple pistol as your main source of defence.
- Survival mode: Which allows you to take your pick from the large selection of advanced weaponry in order to try to survive the increasing on rush of zombie mutations.
- Experimental mode: Allowing you to adjust the intensity of the zombie insurgence.
Endless Zombie Rampage is played at its best when choosing Defensive mode. Taking you through each weapon upgrade and level of difficulty step by step you must tackle the monsters with limited resources. It is therefore important to use your experience points wisely, if you upgrade a weapon too soon and settle for second best, you can easily be caught out with an inadequate primary weapon.
As previously mentioned the game is designed in cartoon graphics, yet it holds a degree of realism. The way the zombie corpses are splattered over the earth when disposed of is like an artist painting a Picasso with a bucket of blood and guts. The corpse of every single zombie you disembowel remains on the earth until the very end of the game, so expect a sea of red if you are competent enough to survive until the later levels.
The game play is also up to standard in Endless Zombie Rampage. It is very easy to manoeuvre your character around the map. The game is shot from an above angle, it is a good choice of view considering the task at hand, the view allows you to react quickly to where the next attack will come from and keeps you from loosing your way from the base that needs protecting. If the game was shot from a first person view at the same level of difficulty, you wouldn't have a hope of surviving, well maybe just a fools hope.
Aiming and firing a weapon is pretty accurate as well, you have a pin point cursor target that allows you to aim directly at the zombies heads, this helps dispose of them quickly. One thing to point out is you can also move and aim your target at the same time which comes in very handy when your attention is needed at multiple angles to your base.
The availability of weaponry is outstanding in this game. You are spoilt for choice with guns ranging from simple pistols such as the USP and Five Seven to Miniguns such as the GAU-8. The guns impact and firing affects are designed to a great level of detail, you can certainly feel and see the difference between having a simple pistol or a mini gun at your disposal. If you progress as far as being able to obtain the GAU-8 you will relish at the opportunity to massacre countless zombies with a seriously mean mother of a weapon. If you can't wait to get your hands on the powerful guns then simply try out survival mode with your choice of gun from the start, I believe this spoils the anticipation and reward that comes from having to fend off large hordes of zombies in defensive mode with a pistol, just to get enough points for that extra weapon upgrade.
Power up options are also available, with upgrades such as 'Bloodlust' where every drop of blood spilt counts for 1 experience point, this will see you rapidly collect experience points to obtain powerful weapons at a faster rate but the power up itself costs a considerable amount. Another one is 'Hollow Points' where bullets deal 10% extra damage.
It is the little details like this that put Endless Zombie Rampage apart from a lot of the other free online flash shooters. It would have been all too easy for Diseased Productions to have simply introduced a small collection of weapons and then launched the game with bare minimum content, but they chose to spend a lot of time on the weapons designs to delight fans. There's a clear intent that the designers wanted you to feel the power of holding a huge mini gun or laser canon in your hands.
The sound effects in the game serve to immerse you further into the survival plot. The background effects contain painful screams, weird groans and growls almost on a random level which adds to the games eeriness, it is a great choice for the main background sound.
If there is one downside to the game, it would have to be range of creatures; I think this is too restrictive. There are some variations in the zombie mutations but not enough to say this is a complete game. Introducing a boss feature would have been a smart move to make in defensive mode, a unique monster at the end of each level may have just given Endless Zombie Rampage enough variety to forgive its general monster inadequacy. Having said that, for a free online game it sure delivers in a lot of areas and I'd advise any reader to give the game a try.
